Dermal fillers are substances that are injected into or under the skin to replace lost volume, lift sagging skin and to re-contour the face. The most common areas injected include the lips, cheeks, jawline, temples, chin, and forehead.
The dermal fillers that we use at Clinic 54 are classified as temporary fillers and are made up of naturally occurring hyaluronic acids which break down over time.
There are many brands of dermal filler available in Australia. At Clinic 54 we use all the main brands with varying levels of firmness and stiffness providing different choices for different areas and treatments.
Depending on which dermal filler is used and the area injected the effects generally last 9 months to 2 years.
Dermal filler injections can be uncomfortable depending on the areas being treated so we offer the choice of ice, topical and injected (infiltrated and nerve block) local anaesthetic and ‘laughing gas’ to reduce any pain or discomfort.
Following dermal filler injections some swelling, redness and bruising is not uncommon but all resolve quickly. We can offer post treatment LED for swelling and bruising and laser for bruising. One of the most concerning complications associated with dermal filler is vascular occlusion due to inadvertent arterial injection of dermal filler. This is very uncommon but may be associated with ischaemia of the skin and blindness. To reduce this risk at Clinic 54 we use ultrasound to map out the arterial landmarks in the face (which can be highly variable from individual to individual) as well as injection under direct ultrasound guidance in some situations to both minimise the risk as well as ensuring that the dermal filler is injected at the correct depth in the right area.
Under Australian law, dermal filler injections are prescription-only medications and therefore we are unable to name the products that we use.
Cost is per syringe and starts at $650
